New Year, New City School
Published: Wed 13 January 2016On Thursday 7th December the Mayor of Southwark Dora Dixon-Fyle MBE ceremoniously handed over the keys to Galleywall Primary. This is to be the first primary school founded by the City of London for over 500 years! Children received the keys and presented the Mayor with the traditional New Year gifts, bread to stave off hunger and coal so create warmth.
Headteacher of the new school Sheila Cohring said ‘We are delighted to have this opportunity to bring Galleywall School back to life. This school will represent the creativity and diversity that is the city of London.’
‘Southwark are delighted to see this building reopened as a school and welcome the £5m refurbishment programme from the DfE,’ remarked the Mayor.
Executive Headteacher Mickey Kelly said ‘For this year only you must apply to Galleywall School separately at www.galleywall.co.uk . There are only a handful of places remaining.’
